In the beginning

For those of you who don't know how this all started, here it is. Mike grew up on Lake Erie and had a boat of one kind or another since he was a kid. I, on the other hand, had never spent much time on the water growing up, but I was always in awe of the ocean. After we were married we were stationed in Guam. We took a 14' Boston Whaler with us and very quickly discovered it was way too small for the big ocean. We continued to upgrade until we finally settled on a 23' center console Sailfish. Great for fishing. We were out as much as we could be on the water, fishing and diving, or just driving around. We absolutely loved it. We decided that one day we wanted to buy a sailboat and sail the world. A few years passed and we realized we would probably have to leave Guam if we ever wanted our dreams to come true. The problem was, we loved Guam. We had a beautiful house and a fantastic lifestyle.

Well the Navy did us a favor. They denied our request to extend in Guam and sent us to Okinawa instead. We have kept our home in Guam and rent it to military members. Eventually we ended up back in the states, in San Diego. As im sure you know, it is very expensive to live there. We lived on a 48' Trawler there and also had a small monohull sailboat that we took out often. Again we revisited our dream of buying a catamaran and setting sail. Well it was never going to happen if we stayed in California. Mike found a great paying job in Texas. We hunkered down, worked hard and spent the next few years working and saving, and living way below our means.

I retired at the end of 2021 and Mike retired 6 months later. We sold our house in Texas, bought an RV and moved to Florida, waiting for the right catamaran to come along. Well a few months later it did. We bought our sailboat a year ago. During the last year we have been doing short work ups to the Keys and making some improvements and fixing some things, and not just on the boat. I had both my knees replaced and surgery on my wrist. Finally we decided on a date to leave, June 15, 2023. And we did. We came off the dock one last time and made our way to Key Biscayne, in preparation for our crossing to the Bahamas.

We are so excited about the journey ahead and we are so glad we can share it with our friends and family through this blog. We hope you tune in and enjoy exploring the world with us. Thank you to our families who have loved and supported us along the way. And thank you to our friends who have encouraged us helped us make this transition. We love you!

A long time ago I learned that if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything. So……..
