Mike and I left mainland Puerto Rico this morning at 2 am to get a little further east. Vieques, a small island off the east coast of Puerto Rico, is our next destination. According to our weather service we have some unpleasant weather coming, so now is not a good time to try to make it to Curaçao. Next week promises to be better. So we will take our time moving east through PR and then to St Croix before heading south. We travel during the night because the trade winds are a bit calmer at night and kick up during the day. By calmer I mean 12-18 knots instead of 20-25 knots. So it's still pretty sporty.
Last night was no exception. Once we pulled the anchor, Mike drove until 6am and I drove until he woke up at 10:00. Watching the sun come up was amazing and not something I do very often, as I tend to really like sleep. So today was a treat.

Off in the distance you can see Vieques. It appeared as though a beautiful day is in store. But if you've ever spent any time in the islands, you know that weather is a very fluid beast.

Squalls on the horizon. I guess I better get my rain jacket and prepare the boat for a downpour or two.
Well as it turned out , the squalls passed me to the north and I only got a few minutes of soft rain. I really could've done without the rain jacket. As I looked behind me to catch the back of the squall, I witnessed one of the most amazing rainbows I have ever seen in my life.

Puerto Rico is truly a magical place.
Beautiful, you have one on me! mike I haven’t been to PR yet. Safe sailing kids. Love you very much
